Waste education services and resources for schools and community groups to promote waste minimisation, recycling, and sustainability.

The workshops are conducted at your school or organisation. We can assist your school in is becoming an accredited “Waste Wise School” in line with the waste wise schools program. Or for those already involved, we can assist you with continuing on that journey.  Topics may include:

  • Waste and recycling

  • Correct sorting

  • Waste minimisation / towards a zero waste lifestyle

  • Conducting a waste audit

  • Earthworks courses

  • Worm farm workshops and other topics on request.

Sustainable home waste management.

Deliver a workshop on a various number of home waste management options. Why? Being individually sustainable, can enhance food quality, minimise waste to landfill may benefit your quality of life. These workshops include how to set up and manage a home waste management system tailored for the participant.

These may include but not limited to a compost bin, worm farm, bokashi bucket. Using environmentally friendly nutrients to sustain various options of a no dig vegetable garden to enhance food quality.

Worm farming.

Two options available:

  • “How to set up a worm farm”

  • “Worm farm health check”

The first workshop shows participants how to set up their own worm farm including worms. When finished they are ready to feed their worm farm, manage the worm juice and castings in an environmentally sustainable manner.

The second workshop is a worm farm health check. Something is not going right or the system doesn’t seem to be working. I will visit you and provide solutions to ensure success.

Waste minimisation in small business.

For small business “Active Waste Solutions” can provide your business with a free personalised waste audit and assessment. Provide training to you and your team on how to best manage waste in the workplace by assessing current practices and providing advice on how to improve them according to best practice waste management methods.

You’ll receive a personal waste assessment and a tailored action plan for your business to help you better manage your waste. This should result in cost savings and improved recycling rates. A waste assessment will help your business reduce waste, which helps the environment and cuts down on your waste disposal bill. Once an organisation understands how it is wasting money and resources, it can begin conserving, recycling, or reusing instead of sending valuable resources to landfill.

Kerbside bin audits.

Visually inspecting kerbside waste collection bins of your choice. Providing education material as required, face to face education and summary report of findings as required. This information can provide statistics on participation rates, bin volumes, contamination material type and possible actions or solutions that could be implemented.

Rates include auditing 200 bins, providing educational material to the community, face to face education, providing notification tags of your choice on the bins and summary report of findings to the client.

Waste classification studies.

Investigation of a particular waste stream will provide you with classification of waste types. After identifying your waste type, approximate quantities. Possible solutions for waste diversion from landfill can be provided.

Compliance facility health check.

Inspection of your facility in accordance with your environmental protection licence conditions and/or development consents. Providing you with a user-friendly report with an “Action Plan” stipulating areas of compliance, non-compliance and possible corrective solutions. Client to provide a copy of licenses, development conditions of consent and initial set up meeting.

Waste project management.

Demonstrated strong skills in project management and waste operational planning. Including contract management, development of the community engagement strategies and projects under grant funding.

Waste education workshops.

Reducing landfill waste, find out how it affected waste disposal and a local landfill site. (Years 7, 10).

What happens when a landfill site is full? What other alternatives is there?

Find out about some of the problems and solutions related to managing waste in a local area when the landfill site is full or engage students in a school waste audit. Produce waste “Action Plan” for implementation.(Years 5, 6). 

Avoiding landfill altogether-This game teaches kids about options for dealing with waste by getting them to reduce an average pile of rubbish. It helps students think about the consequences of sending large volumes of rubbish to landfill sites. (Years 5, 10)
